Roadbase:

We produce three kinds of roadbase: 1-1/2- inch, 1-inch, and 3/4-inch. Our roadbase has a signature tannish red color and is a favorite for folks looking for something unique. The fine portion of the roadbase (1/4-inch minus) is well graded which means that there is a large variation in the material sizes. The large variation of material sizes allows for a tightly compacted roadbase that holds up well to traffic. Some contractors have termed our roadbase "poor man's cement" because of how tightly it compacts. You will find it on several of the county roads near Gateway. It has also been used extensively for a number of driveways and foundations in the Unaweep Canyon and the Grand Valley.

Products:
¾-inch Roadbase - Our ¾-inch roadbase mix contains rock and sand crushed finer than ¾ inch. Typical applications would include underlayment for roads, buildings, parking lots and other areas where stabilization using granular materials is desired. The ¾-inch roadbase provides the smoothest running surface of our roadbase products. Our ¾-inch roadbase will typically meet CDOT Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, Class 4, Class 5, Class 6, and Class 7 specifications.

1-Inch Roadbase - Our 1-inch roadbase mix contains rock and sand crushed finer than 1 inch. Typical applications would include underlayment for roads, buildings, parking lots and other areas where stabilization using granular materials is desired. With a slightly smaller maximum crushed rock size the 1-inch roadbase provides a smoother running surface than the 1-1/2- inch roadbase. Our 1-inch roadbase will typically meet CDOT Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, Class 4, Class 5 and Class 7 specifications.

1-1/2-inch Roadbase - Our 1-1/2- inch roadbase consists of rock and sand crushed finer than 1- 1/2 inches. Typical applications would include underlayment for roads, buildings, parking lots and other areas where stabilization using granular materials is desired. As compared to other roadbase mixes where the rock is crushed finer, the larger rock in the 1-1/2- inch roadbase offers superior stabilization over poor soils. This material is commonly used by Mesa County Road and Bridge Department and you will find it on several of the county roads near Gateway. Our 1-1/2- inch roadbase will typically meet CDOT Class 1, Class 2, Class 3, and Class 4 specifications.
